About us

The Spokane Scholars Foundation was founded in 1993 by a group of Spokane professionals determined to shine a spotlight on academic excellence. At the time, achievements in the classroom were often overshadowed by other activities, leaving a gap in merit-based recognition for the hard work and intellect of high school scholars. The Foundation was created to fill that gap, with an unwavering commitment to honoring and celebrating the academic accomplishments of the Greater Spokane area’s brightest students.

Since its founding, the Spokane Scholars Foundation has recognized more than 3,650 scholars, awarded over 525 students with prestigious honors in six subject categories, and distributed more than $1.6 million in cash awards and matching funds. These efforts culminate each year in the Annual Spokane Scholars Banquet—a special event where the community comes together to celebrate these exceptional students and their dedication to academic achievement.

The Spokane Scholars Foundation operates entirely through the dedication of volunteers. There are no paid staff, and funding for the banquet and awards is made possible by the generosity of local donors. Distinguished speakers also contribute their time and talents, ensuring that every dollar goes toward inspiring and supporting the next generation of academic leaders.

Our scholars have gone on to make meaningful impacts around the world, applying their knowledge and skills to address society’s most pressing challenges. Their success exemplifies the Foundation’s mission: to affirm that scholarly achievement is a worthy pursuit at all stages of life and that lifelong learning is a reward in itself.
